WP Weekly 118 – WOW

Well, wow is the best word to describe the tremendous response to this first week of voting at The WP Awards 2022. Also featuring: hosted WooCommerce space, many product updates, and cool new launches like WP Turbo and Pinegrow for WP.

The WP Awards 2022 voting has been a big surprise, with the first week clocking almost 3X more votes than the 2021 edition. Many Thanks to everyone who shared and voted – special mention to Imran’s video and Pieter’s podcast episode (33). The WP Awards 2022 is made possible by awesome gold sponsors: InMotion Hosting, StellarWP, 20i Hosting, Cloudways, and GoDaddy Pro.

What’s Buzzing in WordPress 💖

  • Interesting Launches… Alex Borto has launched the WP Turbo website featuring 40+ free WordPress generators for post types, menus, shortcodes, stater plugin code, Woo checkout fields, and more. Also, here is an early preview by Adam Lowe of the upcoming Pinegrow visual builder plugin for WordPress users, looks cool?
  • Founder’s Lifetime Offer… is here for Sure Members as it prepares to take off and build a full ecosystem of “Sure Crafted” products featuring Sure Cart, Sure Members, Sure Triggers, and other companion products. This has been created by Adam Preiser of WPCrafter and Sujay Pawar of the Astra theme.
  • New Themes… Thrive Themes has a new Bookwise theme that looks really neat for an author-brand WordPress website. While Pavel Ciorici shared about the free UniBlock theme with 19 custom block patterns and FSE support (pro version coming). Also, Brian Gardner’s Powder theme is now available in the official repository.

Extended WordPress Buzz 🔥

  1. WordPress 6.1 & Blocks… WordPress 6.1 release will enable Block themes requiring less CSS as more elements are getting theme(.)json support. Also, here are more details of the upcoming content-only editing features for blocks, patterns, and templates.
  2. Product Updates… EDD (Easy Digital Downloads) 3.1 update feature ten new blocks for cart, login forms, buy button, order history, receipt, and more. Also, Mailoptin now allows you to automatically add LifterLMS course students to specific email lists or give an option to subscribe during checkout and user registration.
  3. More Product Updates… Fluent Forms 4.3.15 has added an inventory management feature allowing you to add a predefined number in a field. Also, PublishPress Blocks 3.0 release has added a new dashboard screen and updated Block Permissions and Block Styles features.
  4. Core Updates… WordPress 6.1 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is now available as we get closer to the WordPress 6.1 release on Nov 01, 2022. WooCommerce 7.0 has been released with an updated UI look for the filter block and an easy way to change the default cart or checkout page. Also, Gutenberg 14.3 update focussed on writing flow improvements and image block creation via drag-n-drop.
  5. Hosted Woo… as expected, WordPress(.)com is working on launching WooCommerce special hosted solution following the slew of similar launches from hosts like GoDaddy and Bluehost. Interestingly, Matt Mullenweg commented on this, “… Woo’s hosting “package” will be open to any host who wants to partner with them and offer it, including GD, Bluehost, Liquidweb, etc”.
  6. WP Perspectives… Lesley Sim highlighted why open source is the best and worst thing about WordPress. While Rob Howard wrote about how WordPress can succeed by embracing the superfans (not dismissing them) – absolutely, superfans are invisible pillars which do get noticed when they are gone!
