Interest in WordPress is climbing back!
Brad Williams shared (Links X), based on Google Trends, WordPress search interest in 2026 is climbing back to 2017 levels. AI was supposed to replace it. Instead, AI creates content that still needs somewhere to live and WordPress remains the simplest publishing infrastructure at scale.
This was from Alex Bickov’s observation, AI was supposed to kill WordPress. The trend line disagrees. “WordPress was supposed to be the first casualty. It still runs around 43 percent of the web, and this year more people are searching for it, not fewer”.

The team at Siteground has published a report that examines the current state of AI adoption in WordPress by small businesses and what it will take to move from generic use to real value. Findings include: 78% of WordPress users now use AI daily, 41% of users need multiple attempts to get results, and 3000+ AI plugins fall short due to fragmentation and complexity.
